6-Post Racks

A four-post cage with a second bay bolted on behind it. That bay carries your plates, which does two jobs at once — it clears the floor, and it makes the rack heavy enough that it never needs bolting down.

Who it's for

Is this your rack?

The honest version. If the right-hand column describes you better, follow the link — you'll get a better gym for less money.

This is your rack if…

  • You own a lot of plates and nowhere to put them. Storage is built into the frame, not bolted onto it as an afterthought.
  • You cannot or will not drill the floor. Loaded with plates, a 6-post is heavy enough to stay exactly where you put it.
  • You have 8–9 ft of ceiling and a full bay of floor. 7' × 4', permanently. Measure before you fall in love with it.
  • You are buying the last rack you will own. There is nothing above this in the range. The upgrade path ends here.

Look elsewhere if…

  • Your ceiling is under 8 ft. This is the tallest shape we make. 4-post cages fit an 8 ft room comfortably.
  • You want the cage without the second bay. The safety is identical. A 4-post cage gives you that for less.
  • Floor space is tight. This is the biggest footprint on the site. Half racks ask for about half of it.
  • The room has another job. Nothing about a 6-post is temporary. Folding racks go back to six inches.

What you give up

Money and floor, for storage rather than capability. This is the honest bit: a 6-post does not let you lift anything a 4-post cannot. The safeties are the same, the attachment range is the same, the pull-up bar is the same. What the second bay buys you is somewhere to put your plates and enough mass that the rack never moves.

That is a real benefit if you own 500 lb of iron and a floor you will not drill. It is money wasted if you own three plates and a bench. Be honest about which one you are, and if it is the second, buy the 4-post cage and spend the difference on plates.

Skip the part names. What do you want to be able to do?

All 64 fit — the full range, with nothing ruled out by the shape. The storage you would normally bolt on is already there.

I want to

Get every plate off the floor

The back bay is the reason to buy this shape. Nothing to buy, nothing to bolt on, and the weight it carries is what stops the rack ever needing anchors.

Built into the frame — no extra cost✓ The reason this shape exists

I want to

Squat heavy with nobody home

Straps run the full depth of the cage and catch the bar wherever the rep fails — not just where a spotter arm reaches.

Safety Straps — from $38.99✓ Comes with every rack on this page

I want to

Unrack without walking it out

A monolift takes the bar out to you and swings clear, so a heavy squat starts where you stand instead of three steps back.

Monolift Attachment — from $259.99✓ Needs the depth of a 6-post

I want to

Add a cable stack

Lat pulldown and low row mount into the back bay — on a 6-post the depth is already there, so the tower does not add to the footprint.

Lat Pulldown / Low Row — from $594.99✓ Uses depth you already have

I want to

Train legs properly

Leg curl and extension in one attachment, pinned inside the cage — the two movements a barbell alone cannot give you.

Leg Curl / Leg Extension — from $284.99✓ Fits your Hydra

I want to

Do dips

Y-shaped bars pin into the uprights at whatever height suits you, then come off in seconds.

Y Dip Bar — from $94.99✓ Fits your Hydra

Nobody should buy 200 lb of freight because it was the page they happened to land on.

← Step down 4-Post Cages

Four uprights means full-length safeties. The bar gets caught wherever it falls.

Does the room have another job? If it can't be a gym seven days a week, a folding rack does most of this and gives the floor back.

What you give up a lot of room — this is a facility frame in a garage a safety net — nothing catches the bar if a rep fails full-depth safeties — spotter arms only catch the bar where you pinned them floor space in front of the rack — you train inside it, not before it a free-standing frame — it bolts to your wall, and the timber to do that isn't in the box
