4-Post Power Cages

The rack you train inside. Four uprights with safeties running the full depth, so a squat that goes wrong gets caught wherever you happen to be standing — not just where a spotter arm reaches.

Who it's for

Is this your rack?

The honest version. If the right-hand column describes you better, follow the link — you'll get a better gym for less money.

This is your rack if…

  • You train alone. Failing a heavy squat with nobody home is the single scenario a cage exists for. Safeties catch the bar at any point in the lift.
  • You have 8 ft of ceiling. And a 4' × 4' patch of floor you can give up permanently.
  • You want the whole attachment range.  30 things bolt onto these — more than any other shape we make.
  • You'd rather buy once. This is the shape people stop upgrading from. The next step up buys storage, not capability.

Look elsewhere if…

  • Your ceiling is under 7'6". A cage needs headroom for the pull-up bar. Squat stands fit under 7 ft.
  • The room has another job. A cage sits there all week whether you lift or not. Folding racks go back to six inches.
  • You want to walk straight in. A cage means stepping round uprights with a bench. Half racks are open at the front.
  • You want plates off the floor without bolting pegs on. 6-post racks have a storage bay built in.

What you give up

Floor space, permanently. You are training inside a box — that is the entire point, and it is also the cost. The cage occupies its 4' × 4' whether you're lifting or not, and getting a bench in and out means going round an upright rather than straight in.

If that irritates you more than the safety is worth, the half rack is the honest alternative: you keep the pull-up bar and the same attachment range, and you trade full-depth safeties for spotter arms that only catch the bar where you set them.

Then look at Half RacksSame pull-up bar, same attachment range, and you walk straight in. See them →

Attachments

Skip the part names. What do you want to be able to do?

All 30 of these fit a Hydra 4-post. The cage is the shape with the fewest exceptions — almost everything we make bolts onto one.

I want to

Squat heavy with nobody home

The reason to own a cage rather than a stand. Safety straps run across the full depth and catch the bar wherever the rep fails — not just where a spotter arm reaches.

Safety Straps — from $38.99✓ Comes with every rack on this page

I want to

Do pull-ups

A bar spans the top of every cage in this range. Choose a fat grip to hammer your forearms, or skinny to rep out more.

Straight Pull Up Bar — from $55.99✓ Fits your rack

I want to

Get the plates off my floor

Pegs bolt onto the back uprights and hold your plates — which also adds the ballast that stops a cage shifting on a deadlift.

Bolt-On Plate Pegs — from $44.99✓ Fits your Hydra

I want to

Train my back without a cable machine

A chest-supported pad bolts to the uprights, so you can row heavy without loading your lower back.

Seal Row Pad — from $127.99✓ Fits your Hydra

I want to

Add a cable stack

Lat pulldown and low row hang off the back of the cage. Worth knowing before you buy: the tower adds roughly two feet of depth behind the rack.

Lat Pulldown / Low Row — from $594.99✓ Fits — check you have 6 ft of depth

I want to

Train legs properly

Leg curl and extension in one attachment, pinned inside the cage — the two movements a barbell alone can't give you.

Leg Curl / Leg Extension — from $284.99✓ Needs the depth of a 4-post

Not quite right?

The rack either side of this one

Nobody should buy 200 lb of freight because it was the page they happened to land on.

Does the room have another job? If it can't be a gym seven days a week, a folding rack does most of this and gives the floor back.

What you give up floor space in front of the rack — you train inside it, not before it a safety net — nothing catches the bar if a rep fails full-depth safeties — spotter arms only catch the bar where you pinned them a lot of room — this is a facility frame in a garage a free-standing frame — it bolts to your wall, and the timber to do that isn't in the box
